Cameron Young credits short stick after stunning 64 in Dubai

Cameron Young hailed a fantastic putting performance as a brilliant 64 put him in a strong position heading into the weekend at the Hero Dubai Desert Classic.

The American is making his debut at this Rolex Series event but has looked right at home at Emirates Golf Club, making his way to 13 under after 36 holes.

He was an absolute picture of consistency on day two before finding water for his only bogey of the round on the ninth and had no doubt which club he had to thank.

"I putted fantastic," he said. "I made a couple of long ones yesterday and then made a few more today that had no right going in.

"I hit a bunch of good putts but just one of those days where you kind of have a couple of 30-footers and you look up and they are going right in the middle, which doesn't happen all that often to have a bunch of them in one round.

"I'm doing a really good job of staying out of my own way. I kind of realised it was going well early but the back nine, at the same time, it feels like you should do that to some extent, especially in the morning with not much wind.

"I feel like the back nine, I just played really solidly, and then made a putt on one, made a putt on four and all of a sudden that was eight (under) or something.

"Just one of those days that they kept kind of going in and I didn't make too many mistakes."

One of the hallmarks of Young's game is the pause at the top of his backswing and he revealed that previous attempts to remove it have sent him in the wrong direction.

"It's kind of been there for the most part for a while," he said. "I've tried to get rid of it a few times. It doesn't work when I do. So it's staying for now.

"The tempo and rhythm is definitely working all the time. If you look on the range, there's really nobody out there that doesn't look like they aren't in balance in their own tempo. It's just kind of one of the things you've got to do out here."
