Pro-Ams are often a chance for players to ease into a week, but that wasn't the case for Rory McIlroy at the BMW PGA Championship on Wednesday.
In the pre-tournament warm-up, featuring professionals and celebrities, McIlroy set what he hopes is a standard of golf he can sustain as he carded a blemish-free 60 off his own ball over the West Course at Wentworth Club.
Across his 14 appearances at the Rolex Series tournament, during which he has played 47 rounds, it beats his official low score over the par-72 layout of 65 achieved on four occassions. His career low score on the DP World Tour is a 62, most recently achieved at the Abu Dhabi Championship in 2025.
After following a birdie at the third, the toughest hole statistically at Wentworth last year, with an eagle at the scoreable par-five fourth, he then made eight birdies on the spin before closing out his day with another gain.
Having started off the first in what was the first of two shotgun starts across the day, the career Grand Slam winner mixed ten birdies with an eagle to help his team - consisting of former England cricketer Stuart Broad, Olympian turned TV presenter Sam Quek and former F1 technician Calum Nicholas to a combined 42-under-par total.
In doing so, the team of four won the Morning Pro-Am by a seven-shot margin.
