Spots into The Open and Masters Tournament on offer at Genesis Scottish Open

The Genesis Scottish Open provides a route into not one but two Major Championships this week.

Part of the Open Qualifying Series, three places will be available – to the leading golfers not already exempt – at The Renaissance Club in North Berwick.

Should players finish on the same score, the Official World Golf Ranking is used as a tie-breaker to determine who takes their place in the field at Royal Birkdale next week.

While Scotland’s national open has long provided routes into The Open Championship, a direct pathway to the Masters was introduced last year as part of a change to qualification criteria.

Should the winner of the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR co-sanctioned $9 million event not already be exempt, they will receive an invitation to the 2027 Masters Tournament at Augusta National.

American Chris Gotterup, who is the defending Genesis Scottish Open champion, was the first player to take advantage of this new pathway initiated through an agreement by Augusta National and The R&A that recognises select national opens.

Six of the top ten and 14 of the leading 20 players in the Official World Golf Ranking are set to tee it up in the second Rolex Series event of the DP World Tour season.
