Alex Fitzpatrick etched his name into the history books on the weekend, becoming the 236th HotelPlanner Tour alumni to win on Golf’s Global Tour with his maiden title at the 2026 Hero Indian Open.
The Englishman, who kickstarted his professional career on the HotelPlanner Tour in 2023, fired eight final round birdies at the notoriously difficult DLF Golf & Country Club to claim victory, the 11th graduate to do so on the 2026 Race to Dubai to date.
Having turned professional in 2022, Fitzpatrick relied on invites for seven DP World Tour starts the same year, with two top 15 finishes, coming at the Cazoo Open de France and Portugal Masters, earning him category 10 status on the HotelPlanner Tour for the following campaign.
The 27-year-old registered his first top ten in just his second start on the HotelPlanner Tour, coming at The Challenge presented by KGA, before finishing in a tie for third in his next outing at the B-NL Challenge Trophy. Two months later, the Yorkshireman would notch his third top ten of the season at the Italian Challenge Open before finally landing a breakthrough victory at the British Challenge presented by Modest! Golf Management in August. Fresh off finishing in a tie for 17th at The 151th Open at Royal Liverpool, Fitzpatrick cruised to a five-stroke triumph in testing conditions at St. Mellion to catapult himself to seventh on the season-long Road to Mallorca Rankings.
Having effectively wrapped up promotion to the DP World Tour, the Englishman gained entry into the ISPS HANDA World Invitational presented by AVIV Clinics and stormed to a second place finish at Galgorm Castle, a result which teed up DP World Tour playing opportunities for the remainder of the campaign.
In 2024, Fitzpatrick would finish 40th in his first full season on the Race to Dubai with five top tens to his name, including at the Amgen Irish Open and Omega European Masters. The 27-year-old would register two top tens the following year to finish 62nd on the Race to Dubai to retain playing privileges on Golf’s Global Tour.
The Englishman kicked off the 2026 season with three top 20s in five starts before also finishing inside the top 15 in both the Investec South African Open and Joburg Open before his maiden win in Delhi.
Fitzpatrick has jumped 60 places to 136th in the Official World Golf Ranking and follows in the footsteps of his brother, Matt, who first won on the DP World Tour at the 2015 British Masters supported by Sky Sports. The duo also become the first brothers to win back-to-back across the DP World Tour and PGA TOUR after Matt clinched his third title on US soil at the Valspar Championship.
