Breakthrough year for Vidal en route to DP World Tour promotion

Quim Vidal enjoyed a breakthrough year on the HotelPlanner Tour in 2025 to earn his first promotion to the DP World Tour.

The Spaniard, who made his first appearance on the Road to Mallorca at the Empordà Challenge three years ago, registered one victory and four other top tens in 2025 to finish 15th in the Rankings and secure playing privileges on Golf’s Global Tour.

The highlight of the 26-year-old’s season came at the 2025 Delhi Challenge where he earned a maiden victory after coming through a three hole play-off against Englishman Joshua Berry, a result which, at the time, took him by surprise.

“I wasn't expecting getting a win early in the season but that just came,” he said. “I couldn't be happier because I wasn't even thinking about it [winning].”

Vidal would add four more top ten finishes to his record following his win in India, cementing his position inside the promotion places ahead of the Rolex Grand Final supported by The R&A.

And after ending the year in a tie for 21st at Club de Golf Alcanada, Vidal was free to celebrate his first promotion to the DP World Tour.

“Yeah, it's a dream come true,” he said. “It's what you dream about when you're a little kid practicing at your home club, way before turning pro. So yeah, I’m super excited.

“It obviously was a goal to finish in the top 20 but the expectations were low. I just tried to do my best but yeah, it obviously was great to be able to keep pushing the rest of the season.

“The good tournaments I finished up there in the leaderboard like seventh, tenth, fifth and that gave me so many points in the middle part of the season, so I think I took a big advantage.”

The Spaniard has teed it up twice on the DP World Tour so far since his promotion, both in Australia at the BMW Australia PGA Championship and the Crown Australian Open, where he made the cut before finishing in a tie for 59th.

Vidal is set to make his third appearance of the season at this week’s Alfred Dunhill Championship at Royal Johannesburg Golf Club in South Africa.
