Cazoo Open de France - Day one digest

Everything you need to know from the opening day at Le Golf National.

A birdie bonanza saw Tom Kim hit the front, two veterans enjoyed landmark days, an amateur was putting on a show and a local hero got a stroke of luck on day one of the Cazoo Open de France.

Here is everything you need to know from the opening round of continental Europe's oldest open.

Birdie barrage puts Kim on top

Tom Kim produced a stunning birdie blitz to open up a one one-shot lead after the first round. The South Korean was making his first appearance at Le Golf National but you would not have known it as he made six birdies in seven holes to sign for a bogey-free 64 and hit the top of the leaderboard at seven under. English pair Richard Mansell and Matthew Southgate were at six under along with Spaniard Alfredo Garcia-Heredia and Swede Joakim Lagergren, who was facing a 28-foot putt for par on the last when play was suspended due to fading light. There was then a group of ten players in a tie for sixth at five under.

Le landmarks

It's a big week this week for a couple of veteran English stars. David Howell is playing his 721st event to equal Miguel Ángel Jiménez's record for most DP World Tour appearances - a mark he will surpass when he tees it up at next month's Alfred Dunhill Links Championship. For 2007 champion Graeme Storm, meanwhile, this week represents his 500th and final appearance as a player. Two fantastic careers to be celebrated: one that will continue on the course and one that has already moved onto its next stage, with Storm now a rules official for the Tour. Congratulations gents!

Le Goff National

Everyone loves to see an amateur do well. Everyone loves to see a young player do well. Everyone loves to see a local do well. So everyone was delighted when 15-year-old French amateur Hugo Le Goff made birdies on the 14th, 15th, third and fourth to sign for a bogey-free 67. What a day for the teenager.
