The Caversham
Originally opening in 2000, The Caversham operated under the name Caversham Heath Golf Club, until its merger with Reading Golf Club in 2018. The course underwent a major redesign and reopened in 2021 as The Caversham, before the clubhouse underwent a considerable renovation and reopened in 2023.
The Course itself was designed by Thomas McBroom and blends a mixture of parkland and inland links characteristics. The Championship course operates as a par 72, stretching 7333 yards, and will offer a tough test for the players this week.
Clutch Pro Tour
The English Trophy signifies the strength of the relationship between the HotelPlanner Tour and the Clutch Pro Tour. The Clutch Pro Tour is an official Satellite Tour of the HotelPlanner Tour and offers a platform to golfers who are looking to make their way in Europe. Plenty of current and former Clutch Pro Tour players are in the field for this week’s English Trophy, including Thomas Schmidt and Will Hopkins who have all seen success in ‘The Tilman Trophy’, a WAGR-ranked amateur event, which is now hosted at The Caversham. Other players to have made their way through the pathway include Callum Farr, who graduated from the Clutch Pro Tour at the end of 2025, and last week’s winner John Gough.
Road to Mallorca
The English Trophy is the penultimate event on the European stretch of the season, and with two events before the Final Swing left after this week, there will be players that are desperate to score important points on the Road to Mallorca Rankings, to try and earn their DP World Tour card for 2027. John Gough is the only player inside the top 5 on the Road to Mallorca Rankings in the field this week, so it’s a great chance for the rest of the field to catch Christofer Blomstrand at the top of the season-long Rankings. The top 15 come the end of the season earn promotion to the DP World Tour, so can someone strengthen their grip on promotion this week?
