Callum Farr is hoping home advantage will offer an advantage at this week’s English Trophy at The Caversham in Reading.
The Englishman has enjoyed a positive rookie season on the HotelPlanner Tour after graduating from the Clutch Pro Tour at the end of last season.
Farr is hoping that familiar surroundings will help him excel this week and, as the business end of the season approaches, he hopes to score some valuable points on the Road to Mallorca Rankings.
“It's great to be at a home event,” he said. “I played this course a few years ago as well and it's a nice course so it's good to be back.
“I can’t remember playing every hole but come the start of play, I’m sure I’ll be ready to get out there.
“I got home from Poland on Sunday night, so I spent a couple of days at home, and my family are going to come down for the weekend as well. It will be good to have a few people out watching.”
The English Trophy signifies the strong relationship between the HotelPlanner Tour and the Clutch Pro Tour, one of the Official Satellite Tours on the DP World Tour Pathway. Farr was full of praise for the work the England-based circuit does for golfers looking to make their way in Europe, having graduated from the Clutch Pro Tour at the end of 2025.
“It's been massive,” he added. “What they've done for the development of golf in the UK and the fact they’ve given so many of us the opportunity to play and progress our careers has been good.”
Having secured his HotelPlanner Tour card for the 2026 season for the first time, Farr has been impressed by the challenge that new surroundings have given him since making the step up.
“I think the standard is definitely a bit better. I feel like if I just play okay then I can be around the cut line sometimes, which is a bit more stressful than you'd like. I had a decent start to the year and didn't do so good when we got back into Europe.
“But the last few weeks, I've put myself in good positions but haven't really kicked on at the weekend. It would be nice to change that this week.
“I think it's just preparing myself each week better. Obviously with Clutch Tour I was going home for a few days in between events, whereas out here you're abroad for a few weeks at a time. It's sort of learning what you need to do Monday to Wednesday to get yourself ready and just get myself in a good space for the week.”
The 28-year-old currently sits in 70th place on the season-long Rankings and will be hoping to make his mark this week, ahead of the final event of the European stretch of the season at next week’s Open de Portugal. The Englishman has a clear goal ahead of Thursday’s opening tee shot in Reading.
“One good week goes a long way. A win this week would mean a lot. It would push me right up the Rankings so hopefully I can have a good finish and get to Mallorca, that’s the goal now.”
Farr joins a stellar field in England which includes four-time DP World Tour winner David Horsey and European Ryder Cup star Chris Wood.
The English Trophy gets under way at 7:15am local time on Thursday morning with Farr teeing off alongside Sweden’s Adam Blomme and Dane Sebastian Friedrichsen at 12:50pm.
