Ryder Cup star Sergio Garcia has confirmed his place in the field for the Turkish Airlines Open by the Ministry of Youth and Sport.
The World Number Four will be making his debut in the US$7 million tournament, which is the final event before the season-ending DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
“I heard so many positive things about the Turkish Airlines Open that I decided to check it out for myself,” said Garcia ahead of the tournament, which returns to The Montgomerie Maxx Royal, in Antalya, from November 13-16.
“It has already made a big impact on The European Tour and, in such a key position for the Race to Dubai, it’s established itself as one of the most important tournaments at the end of the season. I’m really looking forward to competing there, as well as meeting up with many of my Ryder Cup team-mates.”
Garcia was an integral member of the European side, expertly marshalled by Captain Paul McGinley, which won The Ryder Cup at Gleneagles last month, and the Spaniard will be among the favourites to succeed his team-mate Victor Dubuisson, who claimed his first European Tour title in Turkey last year.
“It’s an extremely strong field, so it’s going to be a very interesting week at what I’m told is an excellent location,” added Garcia. “It should set up a great finale to the season.”
The 78 players teeing up will compete for a share of the US$7 million prize fund, and the top 60 in The Race to Dubai after the tournament will progress to the United Arab Emirates for the concluding event on The 2014 European Tour International Schedule, the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai.
