Jonsson moves two clear in Switzerland

Tobias Jonsson will take a two-stroke lead into the final round of the Swiss Challenge at Golf Sempach, as he closed in on a maiden HotelPlanner Tour title.

The Swede, who started the day in a four-way tie for the lead, signed for a bogey-free four under par round of 67 to move to 13 under par for the week, two clear of Jeppe Kristian Andersen from Denmark who occupies second.

Jonsson, who finished tied 19th in the Challenge de Cadiz last week in his third start on the 2025 Road to Mallorca, birdied his opening hole, before making another birdie on the par five fourth.

The 24-year-old added two more gains on 14 and 17 to move clear at the top, and he was delighted with how he kept his card clean on another day of testing conditions in Lucerne.

“It was solid from the start,” he said. “It was a long time ago I had a bogey-free round so I was happy with that.

“I started with a very good approach shot on hole one and an easy tap in birdie, and then it kept going.

“It was quite hard at some points. When we played hole five and six it started blowing and pouring which was tough.

“I stayed patient from the start. It was just like I played the first two rounds. I hit the driver well and hit a lot of greens.”

Jonsson enjoyed an impressive amateur career, winning the individual title at the 2022 Eisenhower Trophy during a week in which he teamed up with Ryder Cup star and fellow Swede Ludvig Åberg.

The 24-year-old is excited by the prospect of teeing it up in the final group on Sunday for the first time since turning professional last year, and in just his tenth HotelPlanner Tour start.

“I was pretty nervous at the end there today, but tomorrow will be a lot of fun,” he added. “It’s not often you play in the final group in a professional tournament, so I’m looking forward to it.

“I hope it’s going to be better weather, but either way I’m going to stick to the plan and do what I have been the last three days.”

Six players are three shots off the lead in third, including Denmark’s Sebastian Friedrichsen, Spaniard Santiago Tarrio, Félix Mory from France, Englishman Will Enefer, Scotland’s Mark Warren and Norwegian Baard Skogen.

Dane John Axelsen and Englishman Ashley Chesters are a further shot back in ninth on nine under par.

The final round of the Swiss Challenge gets under way tomorrow at 6:50am local time, with Jonsson teeing off alongside Andersen and Warren at 11:08.
