Rikard Karlberg is determined to keep his expectations in check despite heading into this week's Nordea Masters in his homeland in excellent form.
The Swede arrives at Bro Hof Slott Golf Club high in confidence after following a top ten finish in Ireland with second place in last week's BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth.
Despite struggling in his early outings at the Nordea Masters, Karlberg was also the only player to break 70 in every round the last time Bro Hof Slott played host in 2013.
That has raised expectations for a successful week in Stockholm but Karlberg is refusing to get carried away.
“It took me four years, I think, to make the cut in this tournament so I don't have any expectations on me,” the one time European Tour winner said. “I just try to go out and let go.
“I don't think about the result at all. I have to keep my expectations down because I know that way I will play my best and enjoy it more.
“I don't think we can get it much better. It is in fantastic shape. The Swedish fans will have a lot of people following. As a Swedish player, I cannot ask for much more.”
The Nordea Masters is a tournament Karlberg holds in high regard after first visiting as a nine year old in 1996, when Lee Westwood won the first of his three titles.
“It is fantastic. It is somewhere I always want to win,” the 29 year old said.
“My neighbour took me to the Scandinavian Masters, as it was called back then, 20 years ago so it is a dream for me to win back home.
“After last week, a lot of people think my chances have got better. I am looking forward to it.
“I think I saw John Daly hit some drives. There were some other pros showing up at a junior clinic where we got to hit some balls after.
“I just remember the feeling of hitting a golf ball, how fantastic it was, and I didn't remember if minus or plus was good.
“I thought it was awesome, I thought it was fantastic.”
