The PGA European Tour has appointed Spencer Stuart, the global executive search firm, to advise on the hiring of a new Chairman of The European Tour Board of Directors following the announcement that Neil Coles intends to step down following 38 years in the role.
The search, which is to begin with immediate effect, will be led by Jonathan Smith and Will House at Spencer Stuart and will look for candidates on an international basis. The focus for the appointment will be on proven business leaders with an interest and deep empathy for golf, who can deal with the diverse sporting, business and political issues faced by the Tour.
David Jones, Chairman of the Selection Committee charged with leading the process to appoint a new Chairman, commented: “Neil has led the Tour with great distinction for many years and must take great credit for the success it has enjoyed. In light of the recent review of the Tour’s constitution, this is a very exciting time to be bringing in a new person to Chair the Tour through its next stage of development”.
