The Roma Golf Federation Cup returns to Olgiata Golf Club for the second year running for the third edition of the event. Olgiata is arguably the Italian capital’s finest course and last year Edoardo Molinari delighted the home crowds by clinching victory with a 30 foot birdie putt on the final hole, completing the Italian’s hat-trick of Challenge Tour wins in 2009. Situated 19km north west of Rome near the town of La Storta, the 6,944-yard, par 72 course was designed by English architect C. Kenneth Cotton in 1961, before being restyled in 1996 by American architect Jim Fazio. The club also hosted the 2002 Open d’Italia, won by England’s Ian Poulter. In 2007, the inaugural edition of the event, which was won by Sweden’s Mikael Lundberg, took place at the Arnold Palmer-designed course at Le Pavoniere Golf and Country Club. It was not played in 2008, but returned to the Challenge Tour schedule last year and proved to be one of the highlights of the season thanks to Molinari’s heroics.
