Robin Sciot-Siegrist will take a three-stroke lead into the weekend of the Le Vaudreuil Golf Challenge at Golf PGA France du Vaudreuil after impressing for the second successive day.
The Frenchman followed his opening round of 65 with a six under par 66 on day two to reach 13 under par for the week, three clear of Scotsman Daniel Young who occupies second place on ten under par.
Sciot-Siegrist finished second at Le Vaudreuil three years ago after narrowly missing out in a play-off and is excited to be back in contention on home soil as he looks to secure a maiden HotelPlanner Tour win.
“I’m very happy with what I’ve done over the past few days and I’m looking forward to the weekend,” he said.
“It could be very crowded around here, so it’s going to be good. I’m just really happy that there will be a lot of people and a lot of friends and family here watching.
“Winning on home soil is something different. It would be incredible. I came close a couple of years ago and at the time I was really gutted to miss out. It would mean the world to me.”
Sciot-Siegrist, starting from the tenth, birdied three of his opening four holes to extend his one-shot overnight lead to four.
The 31-year-old dropped his only shot of the day at the 14th – his fifth – before gains at 15 and 18 saw him make the turn four under par.
Sciot-Siegrist added another birdie at the fifth and signed off with a seventh birdie of the day at the par four ninth to boost his advantage.
“I played solid again today,” he added. “I was quite strategic and hit some good shots when they were needed. It was a good round of golf.
“Whatever the strategy, you still have to hit good shots, which I did today. You can play strategically around here though to give yourself a better chance at birdies or pars.
“The greens are small, so I like the fact you can aim at the middle of the green and then have a decent putt for birdie.
“There’s a couple of funky holes, and you need to hit some good shots, but if you can do that, you give yourself a really good chance to make a score out here.”
Six players share third place on eight under par, including Austrian Maximilian Steinlechner – who carded a hole-in-one on the par three fifth – English duo James Allan and Steven Brown, Welshman Oliver Farr, Frenchman Clement Charmasson and Jack McDonald from Scotland.
Spaniards Joseba Torres, Lucas Vacarisas and Rocco Repetto Taylor, and Englishman Eddie Pepperell are one shot further back in ninth.
The third round gets under way tomorrow at 8:10am local time, with Sciot-Siegrist teeing off alongside Young at 1:45pm.
