El Bosque Seniors Open Preview

This is the first time the European Seniors Tour has visited El Bosque but the course has hosted two European Tour events one Mixed Open - the Benson and Hedges Trophy and also Pre-Qualifying School II on four occasions - in the past.

Antonio Garrido, aiming to start his 1998 European Seniors Tour campaign with a win in his native Spain, will be playing the El Bosque course where he shot the course record 65 during the Pro-Am tournament the day before the El Bosque Open in April 1990.

The undulating course with quick and difficult greens and water on seven of the 18 holes will provide a though test for the European seniors. The clubhouse, with its panoramic views, provides the perfect backdrop to the 18th hole which requires the second shot to be struck with precision to the elevated, narrow and well bunkered green.

The El Bosque Open will have a purse of £100,000 but players will be competing not only for the £16,600 first prize but also a wonderful piece of porcelain, worth about £4,000, which has been provided by Lladro, the Valencian porcelain manufacturer.
