The Father’s Day special will be held on Sunday, June 20, at Royal Porthcawl, while the top Seniors golfers in Europe will be battling it out for one of the European Senior Tour’s top titles over the links course.

The free admission event runs from June 18 – 20 and will offer the chance to watch some of the biggest names in European golf along with this unique opportunity to improve your game in some of the best practice facilities in Wales.

While golfing Fathers are being catered for on the Sunday, there will be some fantastic opportunities throughout the week for junior players.

Royal Porthcawl professional Peter Evans, who will be supervising the lessons, said: “We came up with the idea in consultation with Ryder Cup Wales, looking to encourage families to come to the final day’s play, which is also Father’s Day.

“We thought that having free coaching sessions here would encourage families to come.

“It is a pretty big commitment with two members of staff, assistant professional Gareth Law and former assistant Paul Thomas, conducting the lessons throughout the day and it is a great opportunity for all standards of player.

“Anyone who is looking to give it a try or an established golfer can come along. We have terrific practice facilities here at Royal Porthcawl and anyone who comes for the lessons will have the opportunity to hit golf balls from the turf.

“They can have chipping lessons, or work on bunker play – whatever suits their need.

“Through the week there will also be chances for young players to get tips and advice from the senior professionals through various clinics, an opportunity to learn from some of the great names of the game.

“We are hoping again that the spectator numbers for the event will grow, that people who came last year enjoyed themselves and will help to encourage others to come and see some of the top players in the game in action here in Wales.”

The opportunity for free lessons at such a big event in European golf is another example of how hosting The Ryder Cup this year is helping to change the landscape of the game in Wales.

Ryder Cup Wales Chief Executive, Rob Holt said: “What a perfect way to celebrate Father’s Day by taking advantage of this great opportunity for free lessons, I could certainly do with one!

“Through the Legacy Fund, Ryder Cup Wales has put a lot of work and money into improving the practice facilities at clubs throughout Wales, and Royal Porthcawl has some of the best facilities to work on your game. Players get the chance to improve their own game and then go and watch how the likes of Ian Woosnam and Sam Torrance do it in the heat of competition – it is a unique double opportunity.”

Anyone can book the free lesson for their Dad, but it does need to be booked in advance through the pro shop at Royal Porthcawl on 01656 773702. More information on that and the event itself is atwww.rydercupwales2010.com
