Phil Golding has set his sights on his best finish yet at Hanbury Manor Marriot Hotel and Country Club when The Sinclair Invitational gets under way from August 30 to September 1.
The five-time Staysure Tour winner will tee it up in familiar surroundings as he looks to better last year’s tied four finish and 2016’s share of third place at the Hertfordshire club which has hosted The Sinclair Invitational, previously known as the Willow Senior Golf Classic, for the last three years.
The Englishman finished three strokes shy of champion Peter Fowler in 2018, 21 years after making his debut at the local course at the 1998 National Car Rental English Open.
With four months to go until the first ball of The Sinclair Invitational is struck, anticipation is building amongst Golding and tournament founder Duncan Sinclair.
“I first played this course many years ago at the English Open and it is a wonderful setup and venue,” Golding said. “The course suits my shots off the tee, and it is always in great condition when I’ve played here. Hopefully, I can go one or two spots better this year.
“We thank Duncan and his wife Corrine for their support in this tournament in particularly. It’s a high banded tournament and I look forward to it later this year.”
Duncan Sinclair said: “I’m lucky enough to have played this game for 60 years this year and golf has been good to me, it’s been a lot of fun and I’ve met a lot of lovely people with one or two memorable moments, so I’m happy to be giving something back.
“The fact this has developed to the point where this tournament bears my family name is a privilege.
“I’m not sure I could’ve predicted much 30 years ago, but we all have our dreams, and this is one of mine which has come true.”
