Lane fighting fit at Casa Serena

Barry Lane is hoping the old adage ‘beware the injured golfer’ will apply to his bid to win his second European Senior Tour title at the Casa Serena Open.

The 50 year old Englishman, who made his Senior Tour breakthrough at the Cleveland Golf / Srixon Scottish Senior Open in St Andrews last month, was forced to withdraw from last week’s KLM Open on The European Tour due to a flu virus.

Lane arrived at the beautiful Casa Serena Golf still feeling decidedly under the weather but is determined to battle through his illness and continue his outstanding form in this his first season on the Senior Tour.

“I am still not feeling great to be honest,” sniffled Lane before the first round, “but I decided to come over and give it a go because this is a very bog tournament on the Senior Tour and one I would love to win.

“I just couldn’t play in Holland last week so thought it would be best to get home as soon as I could and get some recovery time before flying out here to the Czech Republic.

“I am still not feeling 100 per cent but I am a lot better than I was last week and looking forward to getting back out there and trying to win my second tournament of the year. They always say ‘beware the injured golfer’ so let’s hope that applies to me this week!”

Lane and his Senior colleagues are battling for a €600,000 prize fund at the Casa Serena Open, where Peter Mitchell defends the title.
