Lu eyeing home win in Fubon Seniors

Taiwan’s Chien-soon Lu remained on course for a home win in the Fubon Senior Open as he maintained pole position at Miramar Golf and Country Club heading into the final round.

Following the weather disruptions on day two, the second round resumed at 6.45am with the aim of completing the last two rounds on the final day. Lu led by three after his opening eight under par 64 and only managed four holes of his second round – picking up one more shot with a birdie on the second - before the downpour put an end to yesterday’s play.

On returning to the course this morning, however, Lu immediately dropped two shots with a double bogey on the fifth. He got one shot back on the next hole to get back to level par for the round, and kept the ship on an even keel on the back nine, repairing the damage of a bogey on the tenth with a birdie on the 12th. And he restored his three stroke advantage with a birdie on the last hole for a one under par 71 and 36 hole total of nine under 135.

Having finished the US Champions Tour season in 24th place on their money list, Lu is in a confident frame of mind and will be tough to catch on home soil.

England’s Roger Chapman is the man leading the chase though, and kept within three strokes of Lu by matching his one under par 71. Chapman, who has twice finished runner-up this season but is still chasing his maiden Senior Tour title, dropped a shot at the ninth before birdieing the 13th to stay in touch with the lead.

Japan’s Massy Kuramoto endured a roller-coaster of a round as he traded five birdies with five bogeys in a level par 72 to finish the two rounds at five under 139 alongside American amateur Lorens Chan.
