Mednick rediscovers competitive edge after Senior Tour debut

Sweden’s Adam Mednick has come away from the inaugural Paris Legends Championship with mixed emotions after making his debut on the European Senior Tour.

Mednick, winner of the European Tour’s North West of Ireland Open in 2002, and three events on the European Challenge Tour, turned 50 last Friday, making him eligible for the competition at Le Golf National which started that same day.

“I feel a little disappointed,” he said. “Which I didn’t think I would be, which is good. It means the competitive me is alive.

“My score wasn’t great but there were moments out on that course. I’ve hardly played any competitive golf, so I was surprised I got off to good starts over the three rounds.

“I was under par at the beginning then, with some intimidating shots, I made some poor decisions; so I need to play more, that’s the key.

“I was kind of counting down to the tournament, and was hoping I’d be able to put some more time into it.

“Mentally I felt prepared but, game-wise, I’m not quite there yet.”

Mednick was delighted that former room-mate and compatriot Magnus P Atlevi secured his first Senior Tour title, in what was just the 51 year old’s tenth event on the over-50s circuit.

“It’s great that Magnus is here, because we used to room together back on the European Tour.

“I’m really happy for him. He’s played so well this year because he works so hard on his game; he really wants to perform.

“I’ll just have to follow in his wake, prepare and hopefully I’ll beat him soon.”
