Monty makes his move in Moscow

Colin Montgomerie has raced into a share of the lead midway through the final round of the Russian Open Golf Championship (Senior) at Moscow Country Club.

The Scot started the day two shots behind overnight leader Tim Thelen but carded four consecutive birdies from the second to move to eleven under par and level with his American rival. Thelen regained the lead with birdie on the par three eighth but Montgomerie levelled things up again when he holed from ten feet for his fifth birdie of the day on the ninth.

The two leaders went into the back nine four shots ahead of England’s Barry Lane and Andrew Oldcorn from Scotland who both reached the turn in 34 to be eight under par for the tournament

Further down the leaderboard France’s Jean-Francois Remesy and and Argentina’s Jorge Berendt both carded 32 on the front nine to make a significant move up the leaderboard.

England’s Phil Golding was another player who made the most of the warm and tranquil conditions. He birdied three consecutive holes from the fourth to go out in three under par 33 and then also birdied the 12thto climb to fifth place alongside Rick Gibson, Miguel Angel Martin and Marc Farry on seven under par.
