Variety Club present Sunshine Coach to the Walnuts School at Woburn

The European Senior Tour once again teamed up with Travis Perkins plc and the Variety Club to present a Variety Club Sunshine Coach to the Walnuts School ahead of the Travis Perkins Masters at Woburn Golf Club.

Variety Club Presentation

John Carter, Chief Executive of Travis Perkins plc, Geoff Irvine Special Advisor to the Senior Tour and Jamie Little, Director of Golf for the Variety Club Golf Society, were joined by Senior Tour players to present the keys to the Sunshine Coach to Jerry Aldous, Assistant Head Teacher of the Walnuts School.

The Walnuts School is an all age community residential Special School and Children’s Home currently catering for 150 pupils from foundation stage to year 14. All pupils are on the autistic spectrum or have social communication difficulties.

This is the ninth consecutive year the Senior Tour, Travis Perkins and the Variety Club have united to present a state-of-the-art minibus, which is specially adapted to help simplify the transport of the children on school trips.

Jamie Little said: “We are delighted to be able to make this presentation today. The Variety Club has been around for 51 years now and in that time we have raised over £50 million to provide Sunshine Coaches and vehicles to help children have special days which they may not have been able to do without specialised transport.

“It goes without saying that we couldn’t do this work without the support of people like Geoff, John and the Senior Tour players. It gives me great pleasure to hand over the keys to Jerry today and we hope the Walnuts School get fantastic use of the coach.”

Jerry Aldous said: “On behalf of all the children at the school and their families, many of who are here today, I want to thank everyone involved in making this possible. It’s so greatly appreciated and we will get fantastic use of our Sunshine Coach.”
