Hails from Pedreña in northern Spain, the birthplace of the late, great Seve Ballesteros. Like his fellow Spaniard he learned the rudiments of the game on the beach, where he and some friends shared a half set of clubs. His father caddied at the local course and his mother also worked there, so golf was always in the blood.

As a youngster he was forbidden to play at the club except once a year in the caddies’ competition, so he used to climb the fence at the furthest point of the course for some secret practice.

Turned professional in 1983, and gained his card for The European Tour for the first time at the 1991 Qualifying School.

His best finish on The European Tour was in the 1992 German Open, where he earned €81,585 after finishing runner-up behind Vijay Singh.

Over the next 15 years he divided his time between The European and Challenge Tours, winning twice on the latter – including the 2003 Grand Final. Will now hope to achieve success on the European Senior Tour after finishing in third place at the 2013 Qualifying School Final. Achieved three top ten finishes in 2015, clinching his first win on the over-50s circuit at the 2019 European Tour Destinations Senior Classic at PGA Catalunya Resort, Spain.
