    Represented England as an amateur, reaching the semi-final of the English Amateur Championship in 2011 before turning professional later that year.

    Won on the Jamega Pro Golf Tour and PGA EuroPro Tour in 2011 and 2012. Graduated from the European Challenge Tour in 2013 after finishing tenth on the Rankings.

    His breakthrough season came in 2016, when he produced a stunning third round 62 at St Andrews to win his maiden DP World Tour title at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship.

    Claimed back-to-back victories in 2017 when he successfully defended his title at the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and went on to win the Italian Open the following week. Won his second Rolex Series title at the 2019 Turkish Airlines Open when he triumphed in a six-man play-off under floodlights.

    Won his first PGA TOUR title at the 2020 Arnold Palmer Invitational and later that year realised a childhood dream as he won the BMW PGA Championship at Wentworth, his third Rolex Series title, the event he attended as a child which inspired him to become a professional golfer.

    Became a four-time Rolex Series winner after holding off the challenge of Ryder Cup teammate Rory McIlroy in the final round of the 2021 Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship for his sixth DP World Tour title.

    Made a winning Ryder Cup debut in 2018, contributing a point alongside Paul Casey in the Saturday fourballs as Thomas Bjørn's European side defeated the United States 17.5-10.5.

    Made his second appearance for Team Europe at Whistling Straits in 2021 and was a member of the European side which regained the trophy at Marco Simone in 2023, going undefeated as he returned three and a half points from four matches.

    Became the first three-time winner of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship as he held off a spirited challenge from Nicolas Colsaerts to win his seventh DP World Tour title.
