Ken Schofield, Executive Director of the European Tour, said: “We are delighted to be returning to Royal Zoute. This is an outstanding golf course, where the last three winners of the Belgian Open were Miguel Angel Jiménez, Darren Clarke and Nick Faldo. We congratulate Belgacom, and welcome them to the family of European Tour sponsors, and thank the Royal Belgian Federation and the International Management Group.”

The Belgacom Open will be the fifth of seven events, beginning with the Canon European Masters on Sept 3-6, to count this year for points in the European Team Ryder Cup Table. Qualification for places in the 1999 European Team for the match with the United States will end with the BMW International Open on August 19-22 next year.

Belgacom S.A. is the main operator in the highly advanced Belgian telecommunications marketplace. From business telephones and data communications to value-added services, Belgacom enjoys a solid market position and reputation throughout the world. The company provides a full range of local, long distance and international telephone services, mobile communications, value-added voice and data services, corporate networks, international joint venture operations and terminal supply. It is also actively involved in developing state-of-the-art multimedia technologies.

Because of Belgium’s strategic location, Belgacom has established an extensive telecommunications network of cable, radio and satellite links to and from Belgium. These systems, along with its central location in the European Union, make Belgium a natural gateway for international communications between Europe and the rest of the world.
