Jonas Blixt is hoping he has caught European Captain Paul McGinley’s eye this week with another stunning performance in a Major Championship.
Prior to finishing joint runner-up behind Bubba Watson on his Masters Tournament debut, the young Swede had recorded finishes of fourth and tied 26th in his only previous Major appearances, in the US PGA Championship and The Open Championship respectively.
It is undeniably an impressive body of work in golf’s most demanding examinations and, when you include a runner-up finish behind Finland’s Mikko Ilonen in last year’s Nordea Masters and a 12th place finish in the DP World Tour Championship, Dubai, it quickly becomes evident that Blixt is a supremely talented individual.
With that in mind, he is hopeful of making his Ryder Cup debut at The Gleneagles Hotel, in Scotland, this September.
Blixt, who has climbed into the top 40 of the Official World Golf Ranking, said: “It would be a lifelong dream to appear in The Ryder Cup. I’m going to do everything I can, absolutely everything, to be on that team.
“It’s up to Paul McGinley to make the decision on that. I’m going to try to play as well as I can so he doesn’t have a choice but to pick me. If I don’t make it, I want the Europeans to win and I’ll cheer and support them as much as I can, but I would love to be on that team.”
