After the record breaking frenzy of the second round that saw Paul McGinley shoot a new record low total for 36 holes and Robert Dinwiddie set a new course record of 63, conditions toughened for the early starters at the BMW PGA Championship as the weekend play got underway.
South African Retief Goosen, Scotland’s Paul Lawrie and Ireland’s Peter Lawrie were among those to post an early sub-par score, each posting third rounds of 70, but scoring elsewhere has been slower in windy conditions at Wentworth Club.
Indeed following his heroics in the final group last night, Dinwiddie was one of the players to notice the difference out on the course, dropping four consecutive shots in his first six holes to fall back down the leaderboard.
US Open Champion Angel Cabrera, the 2005 BMW PGA Champion at Wentworth Club, carded an even par 72 for the second consecutive day to stay on one over par for the Championship.
McGinley, who starts the day with a four stroke advantage following two stunning rounds, is joined by Sweden’s Robert Karlsson in the final group of the day at 1.20pm
