Curtis to Play in 50th Volvo PGA Championship

American Ben Curtis, who captured the Open Golf Championship at his first attempt last year, has confirmed his participation in the Volvo PGA Championship at Wentworth Club, Surrey, England, from May 27-30.

Curtis’s second appearance over the West Course – he reached the semi-finals of the HSBC World Match Play Championship last October – further augments a field of outstanding quality for the 50th anniversary edition of the Volvo PGA Championship.

The Open Champion, who will be 27 the day prior to the Volvo PGA Championship, took up Membership of The European Tour following his remarkable one stroke victory at Royal St George’s over Denmark’s Thomas Björn and Fiji’s Vijay Singh – both of whom are in the field at Wentworth Club – and his participation hoists the number of Major Champions in the field to an unprecedented ten.

Other Major winners set to test their admirable talents against the West Course are: Seve Ballesteros, Ernie Els, Nick Faldo, Retief Goosen, Bernhard Langer, Paul Lawrie, Sandy Lyle, José Maria Olazábal and Ian Woosnam.

Curtis said: “I love coming over to Britain and I am looking forward to returning to Wentworth to play in the Volvo PGA Championship. The West Course is a great test and I love the challenge it presents. Every hole demands your complete attention.”

Once again, BBC Television will supply live coverage of all the drama as it unfolds over the West Course, and anyone wishing to attend can call the ticket hotline on +44 (0) 1782 741 956 to book your place in advance or visit www.europeantour.com for more information on the Championship.
