• Defending champion, Johan Edfors will attempt to create history by becoming the first player to make a successful defence of The Barclays Scottish Open.
• Ernie Els, has one of the best records of any player in recent years in The Barclays Scottish Open. A winner in 2000 and 2003, the South African also finished third in 2004 and ninth in 2006. For his last 24 rounds over the Loch Lomond Course dating back to 2000, Els is a total of 64 under par, with a stroke average of 68.33. From those 24 rounds, 22 of them are under par, including 19 of those in the 60s.
• The last time The European Tour witnessed two successive holes-in-one by two different players at the same hole was at The Barclays Scottish Open in 2000. Jarmo Sandelin, playing in the final group in round three aced the par three 17th. That was followed by fellow Swede Mathias Grönberg, who was in the first group on the last day.
• Large final day winning comebacks have been a feature of recent years in The Barclays Scottish Open. The 2004 winner, Thomas Levet came from seven back to win by one from Michael Campbell. Edfors in 2006 started six behind the third round leaders but came through to win by two strokes, ahead of Luke Donald, Andres Romero and Charl Schwartzel. On both occasions Levet and Edfors shot a last day 63 (-8) and both winning comebacks were the largest in those respective seasons.
