• When claiming victory in 2006, Ian Poulter finished on 266 (-22), five shots ahead of Ignacio Garrido. Over 72 hole holes the Englishman played flawless golf, making 24 birdes and only two bogeys. The dropped shots only came on the 13th and 17th holes of the final round. The two bogeys by Poulter are the fewest by a winner on The European Tour, since Tiger Woods, who only had one bogey at the 2002 World Golf Championships – American Express Championship.

•  The Open de Madrid Valle Romano is Spain’s most successful event on The European Tour International Schedule, with nine victories since 1972. They players are: German Garrido (1973), Manuel Piñero (1974, 81, 85), Francisco Abreu (1976), Antonio Garrido (1977) and Seve Ballesteros (1980, 82, 89). The
Open de France ALSTOM and the Omega European Masters are next with seven.

• There are seventeen Spanish players in the field for the 2007 event, 11 of them European Tour winners.

• German (1973)and Antonio Garrido (1977),  created European Tour history by becoming the first pair of brothers to win the same event.
