• When Bernhard Langer and Colin Montgomerie tied after their play-off was ended by darkness in 2002, it meant Langer created European Tour history by becoming the first player to tie for victory in two different tournaments. The first one being the 1986 Trophée Lancôme, when he and Seve Ballesteros had their play-off ended after four holes, again due to darkness.

• After rounds of  74 and 68, Paul McGinley trailed Colin Montgomerie by nine shots after 36 holes. A third day 65 followed by a last round of 67 meant the Irishman won by two shots. His nine shot deficit after 36 holes represented the largest comeback by a winner on the 2005 European Tour International Schedule.

• Lee Westwood (1997) and Miguel Angel Jiménez (1999) have the honour of being the only winners of the event to have all their rounds in the 60s.
