• On his way to victory in the 1987 Portuguese Open, staged at Estoril Golf Club, Robert Lee created European Tour history by becoming the first player to shot 27 twice. The magic figure occurred in round one en route to a 61. The Englishman compiled his first 27 in the 1985 Monte Carlo Open. Other golfers to achieve the feat are: José Maria Cañizares (1978 Swiss Open), Joakim Haeggman (1997 Alfred Dunhill Cup) and Simon Khan (2004 The Celtic Manor Wales Open).

• Paul Broadhurst, the winner of the last two editions of the Estoril Open de Portgual became the 28th different player in 2006 to successfully defend an official title in European Tour history. He also won the title the only time the event has been played at Quinta da Marinha Oitavos Golfe in 2005.

• Phillip Price, the 1994 and 2001 champion, claimed his first two European Tour titles in this event. He was the fifth golfer on The European Tour to record their first two victories in the same tournament. He followed Tom Watson (1975 and 77 Open Championship), Greg Norman (1977 and 79 Martini International), Paul Azinger (1990 and 92 BMW International Open) and Mark Davis (1991 and 94 Hohe Brücke Open). The feat has been achieved three time since Price by,  Trevor Immelman (2003 and 04 South African Open), Tim Clark (2002 and 05 South African Open) and Thongchai Jaidee (2004 and 05 Malaysian Open).
