• The visit to the Delhi Golf Club in India marks the first time The European Tour has visited the country and will be the 37th different nation to stage a European Tour event.
• The European and Asian Tour began co-sanctioning events in 1999. India will be the ninth different Asian country to host a tournament between the respective Tours. Since 1972 there have been 13 different Asian-born players to win on The European Tour.
• The Indian Number One, Jyoti Randhawa is a specialist on the Delhi layout, having won the Hero Honda Indian Open in 2006 and 2007. He first won India’s national title in 2000. Of his seven Asian PGA Tour victories, five have come on home soil – the 1998 and 1999 Hero Honda Masters, followed by his three Indian Open titles.
• The 2006 UBS Order of Merit winner, Jeev Milkha Singh created European Tour history when be became the first Indian golfer to become a fully exempt member, after successfully graduating from the 1997 European Tour Qualifying School.
• The first Indian winner on The European Tour was Arjun Atwal. His victory came in his rookie season at the 2002 Singapore Masters. To date, India has claimed four European Tour titles, two for Atwal and two for Singh.
• Ernie Els is the highest ranked player in the Official World Golf Rankings competing in the tournament. The South African has won 60 times as a professional worldwide and will be aiming to win for the first time in India. His 60 wins have come in no fewer than 12 different countries.
• The first Indian Open was played in 1963 and won by five-time Open Champion, Peter Thomson.
