• The 2007 champion, Lee Westwood won the inaugural Open de Andalucia at Aloha Golf Club with a 72 hole total of 268 (-20) giving the Englishman a two shot victory over Fredrik Andersson Hed and Phillip Archer. Westwood covered the last three rounds in 64-65-67. His final 54 hole total of 196 (20) was the lowest in relation to par on the 2007 European Tour. This was later matched by Per-Ulrik Johansson at The Russian Open Golf Championship.
• The Open de Andalucia is the first event of the 2008 European Tour International Schedule to be played on Spanish soil. Of the 1,196 official European Tour events which have taken place since 1972, Spain has hosted 147 of them.
• From the 1,196 tournaments, Spain are second in the all-time list of most wins by country. Currently they have triumphed 142 times, with 26 different players having entered the winners’ circle. Only England have more victories with 236.
