Frankie Minoza, in the inaugural event staged in 2001at Singapore Island Country Club, equaled The European Tour record for the lowest opening 36 holes. His score of 125 matched that of Tiger Woods at the World Golf Championships – NEC Invitational in 2000. Minoza, who is the field this week, finished the 2001 tournament in a tie for seventh.
Nick Dougherty, in winning the event last season, became the second youngest winner on The 2005 European Tour International Schedule, aged 22 and 251 days, behind Charl Schwartzel, who was 21 and 103 days when he claimed the 2005 dunhill championship.
Since 2001 there have been three players who have made the OSIM Singapore Masters their first European Tour victory; They are: Arjun Atwal (2002), Lian Wei-Zhang (2003) and Dougherty (2005).
Four of the nine Asian players to have won on The European Tour are playing this week. They are: Thongchai Jaidee, Charlie Wi, Thaworn Wiratchant and Zhang.
Besides Dougherty and Zhang, two other European Tour Members have won events in Singapore. Jyoti Randhawa won the 2000 Singapore Open and Wiratchant the same event the following year.
Brothers, Adam and Marcus Fraser will be playing in the same event for the fourth time in the 2006 European Tour season. Previously they both teed up in the Johnnie Walker Classic, Maybank Malaysian Open and Enjoy Jakarta HSBC Indonesia Open.
