• In 2006 Italy’s Francesco Molinari became the first Italian to win his National Open since Massimo Mannelli in 1980 and only the third  home-grown player  since The European Tour began in 1972.

• Molinari will be aiming to become the first player to win consecutive Telecom Italia Opens’,  since Flory Van Donck in 1947 and in the process become the first Italian to successfully defend a title in European Tour history.

• Francesco will be joined in the tournament by elder brother, Edoardo, twice a winner on the 2007 European Challenge Tour. Only two sets of siblings have won on The European Tour. They are: Ignacio and German Garrido and Seve and Manuel Ballesteros.

• Former Major Champions, Steve Jones (1996 US Open Championship) and Tom Lehamn (1996 Open Championship) will attempt to add their names to the list of players to win a Major Championship and the Telecom Italia Open. The golfers do perform this particular double are: Henry Cotton (1936), Peter Thomson (1959), Tony Jacklin (1973), Billy Casper (1975), Bernhard Langer (1983, 97), Sandy Lyle (1984, 92) and Greg Norman (1988).

• Seve Ballesteros created European Tour history in the 1985 Italian Open at Molinetto by becoming the first player to record eight successive birdies in a single round. Ballesteros shot 64 (-8) in the third round on his way to finishing tied fifth. Since the Spaniard achieved the feat, nine other players have matched his mark.
