• The defending champion from Sweden, Johan Edfors went on to make European Tour history in 2006 by becoming the first Qualifying School graduate (gained card at the 2005 Qualifying School - Final Stage), to win three tournaments in the following season. After his triumph in China, he claimed victories at The Quinn Direct British Masters and The Barclays Scottish Open. Edfors joined Fredrik Jacobson (2003) as the second Swede to win three times in a single season.

• David Howell led after both rounds two and three in 2006, creating a record in the process. His 36 hole total of 127 (-17) was the lowest opening 36 holes in relation to par for the 2006 season. After 54 holes his score was 193 (-23), which matched the all-time European Tour record for the lowest first 54 hole score  to par, first set by Ernie Els at the 2003 Johnnie Walker Classic.

• The TCL Classic has a history of low scoring. Paul Casey won in 2005 with a total of 266 (-22) and Edfors bettered that figure by three shots last year. Indeed, Edfors’s 263 (-25) was the equal lowest winning score to par in 2006. To emphasize the excellent scoring further, the cut figure in 2005 was 138 (-6), equalling the mark for the lowest  cut on The European Tour, first attained in 2003 at the Open de España.

• The 2006 TCL Classic witnessed five holes-in-one – the most seen at a European Tour event since the 1996 Cannes Open, when five were also achieved. The European Tour record for most aces in one event is six at the 1991 Mediterranean Open.
