• Defending champion Tiger Woods will be bidding to create European Tour history by becoming the first player to win the same official European Tour event six times, having already triumphed in 1999, 02, 03, 05 and 06. The World Number One has also won the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational on five occasions (1999, 00, 01, 05 and 06). Other players to achieve this feat are: Tom Watson (The Open Championship – 1975, 77, 80, 82 and 83) and Bernhard Langer (German Open – 1981, 82, 85, 86 and 93).
• Should Woods triumph he will be the first player to win two different official European Tour events for three consecutive years, having claimed the WGC – Bridgestone Invitational in 1999, 2000 and 01). Other players to win the same event three times in succession are: Ian Woosnam (Monte Carlo Open – 1990, 91 and 92), Nick Faldo (Irish Open – 1991, 92 and 93), Colin Montgomerie (PGA Championship – 1998, 99 and 2000) and Ernie Els (Heineken Classic – 2002, 03 and 04).
• There are 73 players contesting the Championship, from 18 different countries, 34 of which are European Tour Members. Nathan Green, Anton Haig and Prom Meesawat will be playing in a World Golf Championship event for the first time, along with Jeev Milkha Singh and Kevin Stadler will be playing in their first WGC – CA Championship.
