Dubuisson anticipates Alpine test

Victor Dubuisson expects the course changes at this week’s Omega European Masters will make scoring more difficult than in previous years.

The Crans-sur-Sierre Golf Club course has undergone several changes since the Frenchman tied for third last season, finishing a stroke behind eventual winner Thomas Björn who ended the weekend on 20 under.

Dubuisson suspects the changes, most significantly some exaggerated run-offs around the greens, will make for harder work.

“The winning score will probably be around five or six shots higher than in previous years, because the course is now a par 70 and also the greens are a little harder to hit,” he said.

“So if you get to around 15 under, I think you’ll have a great chance of winning this week.”

Dubuisson returns to Switzerland believing he can again make a challenge for the title and a second European Tour crown of his career.

“I hope so. I love this course and this tournament,” the 24 year old said.

“I didn’t play that well the first few years, because it’s a course you need to get to know well. But last year I managed to play well and came close to winning, so that obviously gives me confidence for this week.

“The changes have definitely improved the course, so hopefully I can have another good performance.”

While Dubuisson believes the layout at Crans-sur-Sierre fits his game, the Alpine scenery also agrees with him to make it as a venue he enjoys returning to.

“For sure, it’s beautiful here,” he said.

“It’s lovely to breathe this fresh mountain air, and the views are spectacular. It’s a tricky course, especially the greens, but I think it now suits me.”
