The field for the event will be approximately 60-65 players comprising :
- Available players ranked only within the top 50 of the Official World Rankings as of Monday, October 30th, 2000.
(In the event of a tie for 50th position, the tie would be broken by the following criteria in order :
(a) Total World Ranking Points earned in the 52 week period leading up to Monday, October 30th, 2000.
(b) Position of tied players on 1999 World Money List as of Monday, October 30th, 2000.
- Any remaining available players ranked within the Top 30 only of the 2000 PGA Tour Official Money List at the conclusion of the Tour Championship
- Any remaining available players ranked within the top 20 only of the 2000 Volvo Order of Merit, at the conclusion of the Volvo Masters
- Any remaining available players ranked within the top 3 only from the Final 1999-2000 Australasian Tour Order of Merit
- Any remaining available players ranked within the top 3 only from the Final 1999-2000 Southern Africa Tour Order of Merit
- Any remaining available players ranked within the top 3 only from the PGA Tour of Japan 2000 Order of Merit as of Monday, October 30th, 2000
- The leading Money Winner only from the Asian PGA Tour 2000 Order of Merit
