A field of 66 players will play one round on each of the four days (no cut).
The following will qualify to play in the Tournament:
(a) The last 5 Volvo Masters Champions (1997-2001).
(b) Players in positions 1-55 inclusive in the Volvo Order of Merit at the conclusion of the Italian Open Telecom Italia.
(c) 6 agreed Invitational places.
(d) Category 1 players not qualified under (a) or (b) to complete the field. Players will be ranked in order of the most recent qualification.
(e) In the event that entries from the above categories do not reach 66 in number, the balance of the field will come from players in 56th position and beyond in the Volvo Order of Merit after the Italian Open Telecom Italia.
