INTERESTING FACTS
World Number One and defending Champion, Tiger Woods bids to make European Tour history by becoming the first player to win two different events for three consecutive years. Woods was the last golfer to win the same event three years running - the World Golf Championships-NEC Invitational between 1999-01. Only three others have achieved this feat; Ian Woosnam (Monte Carlo Open 1990-92), Nick Faldo (Carrolls Irish Open 1991-93) and Colin Montgomerie (Volvo PGA Championship 1998-00).
Bernhard Langer has won both European Tour events to be staged at the Gut Kaden course. In 1992 he won the Honda Open and the 1995 the Deutsche Bank-SAP Open TPC of Europe. In his eight tournaments over the Hamburg venue Langer is a total of 70 under par, with a stroke average of 69.57. Another Gut Kaden specialist is England's Lee Westwood, who won the event it was last staged there en route to winning the 2000 Volvo Order of Merit. He previously won the 1998 tournament with a total of 265 (-23). For his last eight rounds on the course he is a total of 38 under.
