INTERESTING FACTS
An event which began in 1987 has been dominated by the co-promotor Bernhard Langer. The 1985 and 1993 Masters Champion has won the title four times, been second four times and amassed 11 top tens in total. The German equalled the low 18 on The European Tour - 60 in 1997 and is
one of only three players, Jamie Spence (1992 Canon European Masters) and Darren Clarke (1999 Smurfit European Open) to be 12 under par for a single round. More entries into the European Tour history books were recorded in 1994 and 1995. Ernie Els (1994) and Russell Claydon (1995) set the low first 36 holes in relation to par, 17 under. Claydon also equalled the most birdies in one round of 12, first set by Fred Couples at the 1991 Scandinavian Masters. Spain's Sergio burst onto the European Tour International Schedule in 1999, winning the Murphy's Irish Open then becoming the youngest player ever to play in the Ryder Cup Matches. The following week he put the disappointment of Brookline behind him to win the Linde German Masters, his second title of the year and become the youngest player to win twice in the same season.
