Floydd and Beltran lead the way in Austria

Jack Floydd posted a bogey-free seven under par round of 63 to join Mario Beltran at the top of the Euram Bank Open leaderboard at Golf Club Adamstal.

Englishman Floydd birdied the final hole of the day to join Beltran at the top of the leaderboard after the Spaniard took the early clubhouse lead, with Finland’s Matias Honkala and three-time European Challenge Tour winner Moritz Lampert, of Germany, sharing third place on six under par.

Floydd, who is making his first start on the 2021 Road to Mallorca, admitted he was delighted with his opening effort, having always set his sights on a bogey-free round.

“I’m delighted with this,” he said. “I’ve been speaking to some of my coaches and that’s been a goal to go round bogey-free and do it today and go round with seven birdies, I’m delighted.

“I played very, very solid from tee to green today. I missed one green and I holed the putt from just off the fringe, so I hit the ball lovely then rolled in a few putts when I was given the opportunities.”

Co-leader Beltran, who posted six birdies and one eagle in his opening round, was pleased to see an improvement in Austria following some recent struggles with his game.

“It felt really good, it felt great,” said Beltran. “I’ve actually been struggling a little bit the last couple of weeks, but I have learnt from that and figured out the little things every week.

“It’s amazing, a lot of times I would just finish the hole and sit back and look around and take it all because it’s absolutely wonderful.

"When you are in a good wave of form you've got to take advantage of it. Sometimes, you're in the good one, sometimes you're in the bad one but when you're in the good one you've just got to ride it. Getting the rhythm of competition and tournaments building up, I think that’s been the key.

Nine players share fifth place on five under par, including Road to Mallorca Number One Santiago Tarrio, who triumphed at D+D REAL Czech Challenge and the Challenge de España in June.

The second round of the Euram Bank Open will begin at 7:30am local time on Friday, with Floydd teeing it up at 8:10am and Beltran getting under way at 1:50pm.
