Alastair Forsyth gave the home fans something to cheer at Loch Lomond as he made a flying start to his opening round at The Barclays Scottish Open.
The 33 year old, who has represented Scotland four times in the World Cup, started his round with a bogey at the tenth.
But it proved to be a false start as he went on to add three consecutive birdies from the 11th and picked up further shots at the 415 yard 15th and par three 17th.
That left the former BPI – Madeira Islands Open winner four under through eight holes, one ahead of Spain’s Gonzalo Fernandez-Castaño.
The British Masters champion also compiled a hat-trick of birdies from the 12th – he was another to start on the tenth tee – to move to three under through five.
A host of players had reached two under par during the early exchanges, including American Brian Gay, The 3 Irish Open winner Shane Lowry, English quartet Graeme Storm, Kenneth Ferrie, Danny Willett and Simon Dyson, Swede Mikael Lundberg, Northern Irish 20 year old Rory McIlroy, Australia’s Stuart Appleby, Spain’s Miguel Angel Jiménez, India’s Jeev Milkha Singh and Thai Prayad Marksaeng.
