Stephen Gallacher shot the best round of the week to set the clubhouse target of seven under par at the Johnnie Walker Championship at Gleneagles.
The Scot’s sparkling 65 saw him move level with overnight leader Gregory Harvet until the Frenchman made an impressive start to his third round at Gleneagles.
Gallacher was joined on seven under in the clubhouse by Sweden’s Peter Hanson, who was also in fine form with a 66.
Gallacher opened with back-to-back birdies to set the tone for his round and he didn’t drop a shot at any stage.
He had to wait until the turn before picking up another stroke but birdies at nine, ten and 12 moved him firmly into contention.
A birdie at 14 was followed with gained shots at the two par fives, 16 and 18, to complete a remarkable eight under par round.
Hanson also made a birdie-birdie start but those shots were wiped out by bogeys at four and five.
Two more birdies at eight an nine took him to two under for the day at the turn and on the way in he gained five strokes to draw level with Gallacher.
Having been caught, Havret jumped into a two-stroke lead with an eagle on the 516 yard second.
The Frenchman then parred the next five holes to be nine under after seven holes.
Also going well out on the course was the German Marcel Siem, who was five under for the day approaching the 16th tee leaving him seven under for the tournament.
England’s Anthony Wall posted birdies at 11, 12 and 13 to join a seven-way tie for second after 14 holes, with Argentina’s Ricardo Gonzalez and Italian Francesco Molinari seven under through 12.
Three birdies on the front nine saw David Howell complete the group as he approached the turn.
