After a busy week of weather delays the Ballantine’s Championship managed to finish on time on Sunday. Brett Rumford emerged as the eventual winner from a three man play-off (for the second week in a row) against Marcus Fraser and Peter Whiteford, with Romain Wattel and Louis Oosthuizen following behind. We analyse their tournament performances plus we round up the final Genworth Statistics leaders for the event.

Brett RUMFORD -11
Brett Rumford fired the shot of the week into the first play-off hole to win his fourth European Tour title. But looking at his Genworth Tournament Statistics the 35 year old Australian golfer actually produced a putting master class. Even with three 3-putts he still ranked 1st in each of the putting categories, which saw him onto converting more birdies than any other player in the field (25 in total). Inspired by fellow Aussie Adam Scott’s recent Masters victory, Brett Rumford will be another very popular winner on the European Tour.

Marcus FRASER -11
Putting seems to have been the vital ingredient this week over the undulating Blackstone greens, with Marcus Fraser also producing incredible Genworth putting statistics to make it into the play-off. The 34 year old Australian golfer was one of only six players not to 3-putt over the week, which is quite a stat in itself. He also ranked 1st for Par 3 Scoring (with a 2.81 average), 6th for Birdies per Round (19 in total) and 6th for Scrambles (even though he only managed 1/4 for Sand Saves).

Peter WHITEFORD -11
Peter Whiteford missed a very make-able putt on the 72nd hole to win his first European Tour event, but even though he did not convert the play-off he can take pride in a very strong all-round performance. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the 32 year old Scottish golfer drove the ball long and straight and he accumulated 53/72 Greens in Regulation, plus he ranked 3rd for Scrambles and 7th for Putts per Round. Peter also dropped the least number of shots out of all the players in the field (6 bogeys, 0 double-bogeys).

Romain WATTEL -9
Romain Wattel was excellent from tee to green this week. The 22 year old French talent ranked 4th for Driving Accuracy, 19th for Driving Distance and 15th for Greens in Regulation, plus he produced some very solid short game and putting statistics, and he ranked 1st for Par 4 Scoring. The only area that he seemed to struggle with was on the Par 3 holes, which included a triple-bogey score and a double-bogey score for an overall 3.19 average. Everything considered big things are expected from Romain Wattel.

Louis OOSTHUIZEN -8
Louis Oosthuizen never really contended for the title this week, but being the world class golfer that he is, the 30 year old South African still sneaked into the top five at the finish. As usual his long game seemed to be pretty strong but his short game and putting were not quite as sharp as the players that finished above him. Looking at his Genworth Statistics, the same as Romain Wattel, Louis struggled on the Par 3 holes, specifically the 13th where he scored +5 in total (made up of two Pars, a double bogey and a triple bogey).
