Genworth Stats Pack - Summary Report

Round 4 of the Hong Kong Open produced 39 sub-par rounds and a field average score of 69.68. Miguel Angel Jiménez emerged as the winner from a playoff against Stuart Manley and Prom Meesawat. We analyse their tournament performances and round up the final Genworth Statistics leaders.

Miguel Angel JIMÉNEZ -12

Miguel Angel Jiménez converted five birdies against a single bogey on his way to a final round 66, emerging as the winner from the playoff with Manley and Meesawat. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 49 year old Spanish maestro performed steadily with the longer clubs, ranking 25th for Driving Accuracy and 8th for Greens in Regulation, but it is on and around the greens where he seemed to excel most (which included recording 7/7 Sand Saves). We do see an interesting pattern in his hole scoring though - an odd one for a tournament winner - whereby Miguel Angel ranked 1st for both Par 4 and Par 5 Scoring but way down in 63rd for Par 3 Scoring (perhaps those hole lengths didn’t quite suit his clubbing distances this week). Overal, in defending his Hong Kong Open title (his 4th in total here), the now 20 time European Tour champion extends his own oldest winner record to 49 years and 337 days.

Stuart MANLEY -12

Stuart Manley converted six birdies against four bogeys on his way to a final round 68, which included holing a chip shot at the 18th to make it into the playoff. Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 34 year old Welsh golfer ranked 4th for Greens in Regulation (with 59/72 greens) and 4th for Putts per GIR (with a 1.661 average) - the combination of which suggests some accurate approach play, enabling him to accumulate the most birdies out of all the players (25 in total). The only possible critisism would be perhaps a few too many bogeys over the week as a result of just 4/13 Scrambles for Par when missing the greens. Overall though, this runner-up result is Stuart’s best ever finish on the European Tour (a fantastic start to his 2014 season).

Prom MEESAWAT -12

Prom Meesawat converted two eagles and two birdies against a single bogey on his way to a final round 65 (the joint low round of the day alongside Robert-Jan Derksen). Looking at his Genworth Statistics for the week, the 29 year old golfer from Thailand ranked 4th for Driving Accruacy (with 42/56 fairways) and 13th for Greens in Regulation (with 56/72 greens), plus he produced some solid numbers with the short stick and good scoring across the different hole types (Par 3’s / Par 4’s / Par 5’s). Much like Manley, this runner-up result is Prom’s best ever finish on the European Tour, getting his 2014 season off to a flyer.
