Challenge Tour Member Ilya Goroneskoul gave himself the chance to follow in the footsteps of his illustrious compatriot Jean-Francois Remesy, when he led the 16 qualifiers for the Open de France ALSTOM at Golf de Chantilly.
Remesy will be going for a hat-trick of titles following his superb success in the tournament in both 2004 and 2005 and now Goroneskoul will line up alongside him, vying for the lion’s share of the record €4,000,000 prize fund, after carding a fine four under par 67 in the qualifying competition.
England’s Oliver Whiteley took the second qualification spot with a two under par 69 while the final spot went to French amateur Julien Grillon at the third hole of a sudden-death play off after eight players had tied on one over par 72 – with only six spots available.
