Harrington happy again after superb 66

Padraig Harrington is right back in contention at the US PGA Championship after shooting a superb third round 66.

PGA Championship - Round Three

The Irishman had effectively admitted his chances of success were over after a second round 74 left him five over par going into moving day.

However, having hit three birdies and two bogeys in nine holes before Saturday’s storms, The Open Champion resumed on the tenth and played some spectacular golf.

He parred his first three holes of the day, but then shot four straight birdies from the 14th to go five under par for the round and level par overall.

A bogey at the 18th took some of the wind from his sails, but at one over par he is currently the clubhouse leader.

Andres Romero is a stroke further back – he completed his third round 65 on Saturday – while Camilo Villegas is on three over after a 67.

On the course, the leaders know they might have to play 38 holes on Sunday, but that has not stopped some good early scoring.

America’s J B Holmes still holds his lead on two under after two holes of the third round – he is one under for the round – while he is joined by compatriot Ben Curtis, who is two under through eight.

Henrik Stenson of Sweden is a shot further back after collecting two strokes on the front nine, and Justin Rose is also one under through nine having gained a shot.

Sergio Garcia is three off the lead on one over par after collecting a stroke in his first 11 holes.
